It’s Men’s Health Month. To honor this national observance focused on encouraging boys, men, and their families to practice healthy living decisions, such as exercising and eating healthy, Wellbeats shares a men’s health story. Thank you for being a Wellbeats member, Jarred!
“I love using Wellbeats for at-home workouts,” says Jarred, a Loan Officer at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Jarred belonged to a gym and was working out regularly. Once the pandemic closed businesses, including his gym, “I got COVID myself and I got really sick. I wanted to get into better health. My only option was running outside since nothing was available, and honestly, running can get monotonous. Wellbeats gave me a way to do workouts at home.”
Though Jarred had downloaded the Wellbeats app in December 2019, he tried his first class in March 2020 and now participates in Wellbeats classes weekly.
Two of Jarred’s favorite classes are Gentle Yoga and Go 4 It.
“It’s a class I love,” he says. He typically does the class early afternoons on the weekends. “It’s a good, very efficient, 30-minute class that gets the whole body involved. It helps me feel relaxed and happy.”
“This is a high-intensity aerobics class that gets your heart rate going,” he says. “It’s a bit harder and you have to get motivated to sweat.” Jarred does this class on weeknights or on weekends. “I like that it’s only about 30 minutes with no equipment needed. You can get a full-body workout in a short amount of time.” And how does he feel afterward? “Tired but accomplished.”
When Jarred was asked if he has tried other Wellbeats classes, like nutrition and mindfulness, he said: “There’s more in the app I didn’t even realize was there. It makes me want to take a closer look.”
Jarred appreciates that Wellbeats is free to him as a Fairway employee, and he enjoys the variety. “When I first started using Wellbeats, I was looking for something aerobic to do. Then I noticed there were yoga classes, so I thought, ‘I’ll try those.’ Now, I’m realizing there’s even more. Wellbeats has such a great selection and variety of classes; that’s probably the best thing. And, you can do it in the comfort of your own home.”
Wellbeats has enabled Jarred to maintain his fitness level without having to go to a gym. “Fairway has provided employees with home exercise equipment and resources, including Wellbeats. I can’t justify the cost of returning to the gym.” Better yet: “I have improved in my yoga and my aerobic exercise capacity,” he says. “I feel healthier.”
