Show Your Pride

This year, Pride Month (the month of June) means a whole lot more to Jaime Burnham (she/her), Wellbeats’ Regional Vice President of Corporate Sales, a compassionate champion of the LGBTQ+ community, and Wellbeats’ Diversity and Inclusion Committee chair.

Nearly 80 companies are proactively celebrating this month by sponsoring our new “Show Your Pride” challenge, and the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) initiative Jaime now leads has enthusiastic leadership support with 10 active committee members raising awareness and celebrating diversity within our workforce.

Wellbeats DE&I initiative

“Last year was such a polarizing year,” says Jaime. “Being in the LGBTQ community and having mixed-race kids, our family was definitely struggling.” Jaime and her former partner co-parent their three children (pictured below). “After George Floyd’s death, we had lots of difficult conversations with our kids.”

Because Jaime is active with many LGBTQ organizations and was familiar with DE&I corporate initiatives, she decided to step forward and propose the committee at Wellbeats. “The entire executive leadership team was totally supportive,” she says. “It didn’t take long for it to be approved, and everyone is constantly asking me, ‘How is it going? What can we do?’ It is definitely top-of-mind at Wellbeats.”

Year-round celebrations and observances

Pride Month is the largest celebration the committee has sponsored so far. Following the successful rollout of Wellbeats’ COVID-19 promotion last year, in which interested companies were offered free access to Wellbeats (in just the first two weeks of the promotion, we engaged over 110,000 new users and measured a 487% increase in class minutes per person/per day), we again offered free access in June to join us in celebrating Pride Month with the Show Your Pride challenge. As of today (6/4), a total of 77 companies are sponsoring the challenge this month.

In addition to the PRIDE challenge, the committee is spearheading unconscious bias training for all employees, helping the leadership team improve diverse hiring practices, and building a calendar of diverse observances and celebrations to keep DE&I visible and to honor, praise and call attention to diversity and inclusion year-round.
