We love spotlighting how our members fit Wellbeats into their lives. Tami’s motivation: Lose weight and reduce stress
Tami, a Senior Loan Officer at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, has adapted her workout routines using gifted fitness equipment from Fairway coupled with on-demand workouts on her iPhone and iPad through Wellbeats. And the best part: “I am happy to report that I lost 15 pounds!” she says. “There are pants I couldn’t wear last year that I can wear again.”
Even pandemics can have silver linings.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in March of 2020, “I didn’t really know what I was going to do to stay in shape,” says Tami. “I had been going to the gym to take yoga and Pilates classes. But with two autoimmune diseases and therefore a suppressed immune system, there was no way I was going to continue going to the gym. Fairway came through, like they always do, and allowed us to access Wellbeats.”
Tami took Fairway up on its generous offer to provide fitness equipment to any employee who wanted to work out at home. “I got an elliptical machine and set it up in my basement,” she says. Depending upon her mood and the amount of time she has available, Tami will use the elliptical or do a Wellbeats fitness class – which she can choose to do in her living room or bedroom as well as in the basement.
Tami has found Wellbeats yoga, Pilates, and barre classes that she does several times a week. “Those are my favorites,” she says. “I was a dancer in my early years, so I really love the barre classes.” Barre is a hybrid workout class that combines ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga, and strength training.
Wellbeats has also played a big role in Tami’s stress reduction. “If I’m having a really high-stress day, I can jump on Wellbeats for a quick 10 or 15-minute workout. Having access to the app whenever I want is so easy. You don’t even have to be at home. You could be on vacation and still access Wellbeats on your phone or iPad.”
Now that she’s in her new groove, she may never go back to the gym. “I’ve learned that I can be structured enough to do what I need to do at home,” she says. “I literally made it a priority to get exercise. I have times of the day I know I can do it. It’s worked really well.” And losing weight and reducing stress have made Wellbeats even more worthwhile.
