HR Daily Newsletter published an article titled, “Going Virtual Gives Weight Loss and Fitness Programs Broader Reach,” featuring interviews with Wellbeats clients pharmaceutical company Amgen and Fairfax County Public Schools, each with about 25,000 employees.
Both Amgen and Fairfax County Public Schools extended the reach of their wellness benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering Wellbeats’ virtual tech-based solution with 800+ fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness classes.
“Virtual programs are here to stay,” says Amanda McComb, Amgen’s senior associate of employee experience. “The goal is to provide more options for staff to participate in wellness programs.”
Camille Bartus, Fairfax County Public Schools employee wellness manager, says, “We had to do a quick pivot because people really needed wellness support. Employees were isolated and stressed.” The opportunity to offer Wellbeats “allows employees to choose a program based on how much time they have—five, ten, or twenty minutes—and when they have it: after work, during lunch, or when the kids are around.”
Neither Amgen nor Fairfax County Public Schools plans to roll back their virtual programs once employees have completely transitioned back to the workplace. Recognizing the greater reach and cost-effectiveness of this approach, “we should have been virtual all along,” McComb said.
